Nautical Applique

This quilt was pieced by/for Niagara Heritage Quilters Guild for the Community Quilts Program. The lovely applique and colors just called for custom quilting. Several motifs were used including Lori Kennedy's Sail Boats. This motif was used in a large size along the outside border and on a smaller scale in the 2 white borders at the top and bottom. In the light blue border a secondary framed border was created with a wave motif flowing around the whole outside. Cornstones with stars were used so the wave did not have to traverse the corner. All the applique was stitched in the ditch and echoed with additional motifs used in each frame. (portholes on the boats, light streaming out from the lighthouse) An overall wavy line was used in the background. The quilting is fairly open making this quilt soft and cuddly.
